I’m the Founder, and Owner of Hill-Top Financial Planning, LLC.
As a fiduciary and fee-only advisor, I am passionate about working with individuals and families who want to live a debt-free life, and reach their financial goals, so they can leave a legacy to be proud of for future generations.

Charlie has been with Hill-Top from day one, and in that time, he has truly done it all.
His primary role? Securing the fortress from all potential threats—including pesky cat or squirrel intruders—a job he takes very seriously. He also takes it upon himself to enthusiastically greet the Amazon delivery drivers several times a day—just so they know he’s paying attention.
While he occasionally dreams up new security strategies from his dog bed, Charlie is also a foot warmer extraordinaire, often stationed under Kyle’s desk for maximum coziness and supervision. He has also perfected the art of being in two places at once—strategically positioning himself in the office doorway so he can both monitor the front windows and keep tabs on the humans inside.
But perhaps Charlie’s most critical duty is serving as the Hill-Top Closing Bell, gently (ahem, persistently) notifying Kyle when it is time to stop working and start serving dinner—which, in his opinion, should be no later than 3:00 PM (if not sooner). Lately, he’s been angling for the senior special at noon.
In a previous life, Charlie was a full-time couch lounger, filling his days waiting for Mom or Dad to come home so he could get fed. Exactly how he spent those hours remains a mystery, though occasional evidence of wrappers—or worse surprises—suggests he kept himself entertained.
When he’s off duty, Charlie enjoys food, demanding to be pet, and more food.
As the ultimate utility player, Charlie continues to be a loyal, ever-watchful presence at Hill-Top, making sure things run smoothly—even if that just means reminding everyone when it’s time to eat.

His real name is Charlie Gibson and is named after the former NBC Night News anchor, Charles Gibson. True Story.
He was rescued as a puppy, but honestly, who rescued who?

He barks at other real animals on tv, so we have to change the channel when he locks them in his sights.

Bubba was with Hill-Top from the very beginning, though if we’re being honest, we were never entirely sure what he did around here.
Maybe you could call him our Department of Quality Control—he was always double-checking Charlie’s work, whether it was greeting visitors through the window or conducting thorough floor clean-up inspections (especially after snack time).
A quiet presence most of the time, Bubba would occasionally peek his head into Kyle’s office, as if making sure everything was running smoothly. And when something wasn’t up to standard—like an empty water bowl—he made sure the issue was addressed immediately (via some very effective scratching).
Of course, his compliance with company property guidelines was questionable. Over the years, he put his own personal touch on a few doors, but let’s be real—his puppy dog eyes made disciplinary action impossible.
Outside of the office, Bubba was a pro at patience—spending years lounging on the couch, waiting for Mom and Dad to get home, though he wasn’t quite as vocal about his excitement as Charlie. But don’t let that laid-back attitude fool you—Bubba had his mischievous side too. Whether it was nibbling on the Christmas tree, sneaking off with the kids' toys, or being the reason we couldn't put presents under the tree, he kept us on our toes.
Though he's no longer with us, Bubba’s memory will always be a part of Hill-Top. His quiet but watchful presence, his soft skills (especially in the “melting hearts” department), and his ability to make every day just a little better remind us why we do what we do—helping families create a future as full of love and joy as the one he gave us.

Bubba was one of eleven puppies, and his mother was a full blooded basset hound.

He was also a rescue puppy, our first.
He's also a Bassador, like Charlie, but they are brothers from other mothers.
His pirate name was Bubba Black Nail, because he had one black nail.

More About Kyle
Growing up I had always dreamed of owning my own business. I was first inspired by my grandparents who owned an insurance business in a small Kansas town.
I grew up in Manhattan, Kansas and attended Kansas State University where I studied Business Administration and Leadership Studies. Upon graduation I moved to Kansas City and married my college sweetheart. I decided to enter the banking industry because I wanted to help people achieve financial life milestones. The bank I worked at was located in a disadvantaged neighborhood with high rates of poverty. It was this job that reinforced lessons I had been taught early in life on empathy, compassion, and the importance of financial independence.
After gaining new perspectives in banking, I joined a wealth management firm where I spent six years in the investment world. It was at this time that my wife and I went through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, a class that forever changed my perspective on personal finance and altered my life trajectory. I went on to earn a Master of Science in Finance and the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification.
When completing my studies I remember thinking to myself, “Why isn’t anyone working with my generation?”. I was routinely told that it could not be done because young people lacked the amount of investable assets needed to be desirable clients. In other words, most financial advisors considered working with young people a waste of their time. This narrative continued to weigh on my mind until I discovered XY Planning Network (XYPN), a network for financial planners catering to younger clients in an objective, fee-only capacity. I have since become a member of XYPN to define my vision of helping younger generations develop a plan to succeed financially so that they may live a great life and do good in the world.
I continue to call Kansas City home with my wife, our three kids, and our dog. When I am not drawing up financial plans for clients, I enjoy keeping up with my boys and all their sports and helping coach their baseball teams. My daughter is always on the move which therefore means we are too. Saturdays in the Fall are spent cheering on the K-State Wildcats, and Sundays the Kansas City Chiefs. In the summers you can frequently find us at The K cheering on the Kansas City Royals. I look forward to each season participating in my fantasy sports (football & baseball) leagues (This is the year to reclaim the title!).

You might be wondering what our typical client looks like.
We don’t specialize in a certain profession and we don’t have a minimum asset requirement. We will work with anyone who might be a good fit.
What makes a good fit? We have a shared mentality toward personal finance.
We want to be debt free. We want to build wealth. We want to become financially independent. At HTFP, we utilize Dave Ramsey’s Baby Steps as the frame work for our financial planning process. We do not require clients to be familiar with this program, but are upfront about our commitment to the basic principles of minimizing debt and maximizing wealth.
What if I don't live in your state?
Hill-Top is a Registered Investment Advisor in the States of Missouri and Kansas, but we Serve Clients Nationwide where we are exempt from registration. Basically, if you live in another state, most likely we can still work with you.
